Congress will put off a long-term FAA reauthorization bill until September, but new safety rules focused on commuter airlines have been attached to another bill expected to pass the House today. The chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee introduced a short-term FAA extension on Wednesday, allowing the agency to continue operating through Sept. 30. With bipartisan political support, new safety measures are expected to pass quickly as part of that bill. The larger reauthorization bill, which is key to the NextGen air-traffic control system, has been stalled by labor provisions and flight limits at Washington Reagan National Airport.
