Local and federal officials are planning to reduce New York's Canada goose population by about two-thirds in an effort to prevent bird strikes at airports, according to The New York Times. More broadly, the goose population in 17 Eastern states is to be cut by nearly one-half, from 1.1 million to 650,000. Statistics show 78 aircraft collided with Canada geese at New York airports over the past decade, causing some $2.2 million in property damage.
